Why back up Microsoft 365?
A working cloud environment is not a recovery plan.
When a message disappears or a document is overwritten incorrectly, you need to know which copy can be recovered. An independent backup adds a recovery option.

Why DataVault365
Having Microsoft 365 available is not the same as having an independent backup.
Human error, unwanted changes and cyber incidents can affect any organisation. With a separate backup, recovery remains possible outside the primary Microsoft 365 environment.
A mailbox, file or folder disappears faster than you think.
Malicious changes can also reach synchronised data.
Keep important business information after someone leaves.
Align retention with policy, contracts and legal obligations.
Availability, synchronisation and backup each have a role
Microsoft 365 provides availability and built-in recovery options. Synchronisation keeps work files aligned across locations. A separate backup preserves previously captured content under your retention policy outside the primary environment.
This is relevant to accidental deletion, unwanted changes, staff departures and the need for longer history. The right solution depends on your data, processes and existing configuration.
Three questions for your recovery plan
- Which data do we need to keep working: mailboxes, project documents or critical cloud flows?
- How much history should remain available, and for what purpose?
- Who checks backups and who performs recovery?
A backup does not guarantee that every incident has no consequences. Only successfully captured data within retention can be recovered. Include a recovery check in your plan.
