Document protection: what is covered?
SharePoint backup covers files, folders and available file versions in connected document libraries. Find content by library, path and file, then select a saved version. Encrypted backup data is stored in Germany.
A document backup is not a full site copy. This coverage does not reconstruct complete SharePoint sites, lists, site configuration, page layouts or every permission. We agree which libraries are protected during onboarding.
Restoring a document or folder
If a document was overwritten, find a saved version and restore it alongside the current document first. Compare the two before deciding which file to use. For a deleted folder, select the available content at the chosen recovery point.
Restore to the original library or another suitable document location within the same organisation. Recovery depends on saved content and write permissions at the destination. Read the version recovery walkthrough.
Version history and daily processing
DataVault365 retrieves file versions made available by Microsoft and retains them under the configured policy. Automatic daily backups and the successful-run overview show which data has been processed.
A version permanently removed before the first backup cannot be captured retrospectively. Inaccessible files or missing permissions require attention, so check errors as well as the last successful run.
SharePoint in your plan
SharePoint is included in Essential and Compliance. Essential offers retention up to one year and 50 GB of backup storage per user; Compliance offers up to seven years and 100 GB per user. Storage is pooled across the organisation with the other protected services.

Questions about SharePoint backup
Does recovery restore all SharePoint site settings?
No. The described protection covers documents and file versions. Site settings, complete lists and every permission are not reconstructed as a full site.
What happens to a deleted document?
If it was successfully backed up, its saved content remains available within retention. Deletion in Microsoft does not immediately remove that copy.
