Where is backup data stored?
The data processing agreement specifies Germany as the storage location and Strato AG as the sub-processor hosting backup storage and the customer portal. This gives you a concrete location and provider to include in your supplier assessment.

What European storage does and does not mean
A European storage location clarifies the data chain, but does not by itself guarantee GDPR compliance. Your organisation still determines why data is retained, who may access it and which retention period is appropriate.
The location of this backup does not automatically change the location or contractual arrangements of your Microsoft 365 source environment. Assess those separately under your Microsoft agreement.
